What the Current Signal Tells You

NJ2-12GK-SN changes loop current instead of producing the voltage output associated with a standard 3-wire sensor. Pepperl+Fuchs specifies at least 3 mA when the target is not detected and no more than 1 mA when the target is detected. The connected barrier or switch amplifier interprets these two states.

Quick Fault-Finding Sequence

No switching: Check the target gap first. The assured operating distance reaches 1.62 mm under stated conditions, and non-steel or undersized targets can reduce the practical range.

Intermittent switching: Inspect bracket rigidity, target alignment, vibration, locknut tightness, and cable strain.

Interface fault indication: Check polarity, open-circuit or short-circuit conditions, terminal tightness, and the selected barrier configuration.

Unexpected PLC state: Follow the signal from the sensor through the NAMUR interface and then to the control-system input. Do not replace NJ2-12GK-SN with a conventional transistor-output sensor.
