Pepperl+Fuchs NEN10-12GM50-E2 is an M12 cylindrical inductive proximity sensor for detecting metal targets without mechanical contact. It provides a 10 mm rated operating distance, a 3-wire PNP normally open output, and a permanently attached 2 m PUR cable. Non-contact inductive measurement

NEN10-12GM50-E2 generates an electromagnetic field at the sensing face. A metal target entering this field changes the internal oscillator condition, causing the PNP output to switch. Because no physical contact is required, the sensor avoids wear associated with mechanical limit switches and can operate at high cycle rates when correctly mounted.

The published 10 mm distance is referenced to a standard mild-steel target. Other metals reduce the effective range. Pepperl+Fuchs lists reduction factors of approximately 0.45 for aluminum, 0.40 for copper, 0.75 for 304 stainless steel, and 0.45 for brass. Commissioning should therefore use the actual target material and real travel path.

Mounting and fault checks

NEN10-12GM50-E2 requires non-flush mounting clearance around the active face. Recessing the sensor too deeply in steel can reduce its range or create unstable switching. During commissioning, verify the 10 to 30 V DC supply, PNP input compatibility, target distance, LED operation, and cable routing. Keep the PUR cable away from sharp edges, crushing points, and high-noise power conductors.

If NEN10-12GM50-E2 switches intermittently, check for loose mounting, metal deposits near the sensing face, target vibration, cable damage, or operation outside the assured sensing distance.
