Advanced Pepperl+Fuchs KFU8-CRG2-1.D Signal Conditioning for Transmitter Supply, Analog Scaling, and Process Alarm Control

Pepperl+Fuchs KFU8-CRG2-1.D is a one-channel transmitter power supply and signal conditioner for non-intrinsically safe process applications. It can supply two-wire and three-wire transmitters, accept active two-wire current sources, reproduce a 0/4 mA to 20 mA signal on the control side, and provide two independently useful relay contact outputs. This combination makes KFU8-CRG2-1.D a practical choice when one field measurement must be isolated, displayed, scaled, supervised, and used for local alarm decisions inside the same DIN-rail module.

One Measurement, Three Useful Output Paths

The field signal enters KFU8-CRG2-1.D through terminals 1, 2, and 3. On the control side, the conditioned analogue value is available at terminals 8+ and 7-, while two relay outputs are provided through terminals 10 to 12 and 16 to 18. This arrangement allows the process value to continue to a PLC, DCS, recorder, or indicator while the relays handle high alarm, low alarm, interlock, or local status functions.

The analogue output can be scaled, and the front display can show the measured value in selected physical units. A configurable linearization function with as many as twenty points is especially useful when a sensor or process relationship is not perfectly linear. Instead of accepting an inaccurate straight-line conversion, engineers can create a better representation across the working range.

Alarm Behavior and Diagnostic Visibility

KFU8-CRG2-1.D supports programmable maximum and minimum alarm functions. Relay energizing and de-energizing delays can be adjusted from 0 to 250 seconds, helping prevent brief process fluctuations from creating unnecessary relay action. Line fault detection identifies field-side open-circuit and short-circuit conditions, while the red fault indicator gives technicians a direct visual clue at the cabinet.

For the current input, published line-fault thresholds include a break condition below 0.2 mA and a short-circuit condition above 22 mA. The analogue output can also represent fault information in accordance with NAMUR NE 43 behavior, depending on configuration. These diagnostics make the distinction between a real process alarm and a wiring problem easier to investigate.

Power and Panel Integration

A wide supply range allows KFU8-CRG2-1.D to operate from 20 to 90 V DC or 48 to 253 V AC. The module is 40 mm wide and mounts on a standard 35 mm DIN rail. Screw terminals, a front keypad, LED indicators, and an LC display support commissioning and later maintenance without requiring a separate local indicator for every adjustment.

When adding KFU8-CRG2-1.D to an existing panel, review heat dissipation, terminal access, power protection, cable segregation, relay loading, and the available analogue input type at the control system. The relay contact rating and required fail-safe state should be checked against the connected circuit rather than assumed from a previous application.

Example Application

Consider a storage tank with a two-wire level transmitter. KFU8-CRG2-1.D supplies the transmitter and sends an isolated 4-20 mA level value to the control system. Relay output I can be configured for a high-level warning, while relay output II provides an independent low-level indication for pump protection. If the tank geometry produces a nonlinear relationship between level and volume, the twenty-point linearization function can improve the displayed engineering value. If the field cable opens, line fault detection helps maintenance personnel separate an instrument-loop problem from a genuine tank condition.

What to Confirm Before Ordering

  • Confirm the complete model KFU8-CRG2-1.D and note that it is the non-intrinsically safe version.

  • Identify the transmitter type, input range, required analogue output, and desired engineering units.

  • Define high and low alarm setpoints, relay logic, and on/off delay requirements.

  • Check the available AC or DC supply and the relay load characteristics.

  • State whether keypad configuration, PACTware records, or functional-safety documentation is required.

  • Provide quantity, destination country, delivery deadline, and a clear label photograph for replacement work.

Pepperl+Fuchs KFU8-CRG2-1.D may be requested for water treatment, chemical processing, power generation, food production, tank farms, utilities, OEM skids, and general process automation. Final selection, programming, safety-loop assessment, and commissioning should follow the current Pepperl+Fuchs documentation and the approved project design.
